When I first started riding, I used my Bell M2 automotive helmet (fire rated/Snell 2000). I then purchased a used Arai Quantum/F and used that instead. The Arai was significantly lighter than the M2 and was much better ventilated. It’s nearly six years old and only Snell M95 rated so I decided to look for an updated helmet. I found a terrific deal on a new Shoei RF1000 “Nerve TC-2” locally and picked it up Friday. The helmet included a tinted visor along with the clear one and a handy helmet bag. I wear a size medium in Arai and a medium Shoei was a pretty close fit. It’s a bit tight at the crown of my head, but I think it will get better after some breaking in. It’s a bit lighter and quieter than the Arai and I like the shield mechanism better. I don’t like the neck strap holder and I think my old Quantum/F has better venting. The mouth vent on the Shoei is particularly hard to use but the other ones are simple and easy to work with gloves on. As advertised, the new helmet shape keeps my head from bobbing around in the wind as much as the older Arai. For $250, I think the Shoei RF1000 is the best deal going right now. A premium Japanese made helmet for the price of a Chinese copy.

hahaha! Maybe if you had a red one I've got my eye on a red RF1000 Voltage to match my red 1 piece suit.

I picked up a new matte black TZ-1 that i love for $90. Ive been lookin at the RF-1000's however i dont notice a huge difference on fitment between the two. I really like the Z-11 but its a bit pricey.
