Hey guys! My new tires arrived last night so I pulled my wheels to get them mounted today. This will be my first experience on street tires as the bike came mounted with Michelin Race tires (non DOT near-slicks). Front: 120/70-17 Rear: 160/60-17 I also received another rear tire I won on ebay. A brand new BT014 170/60-17 that I paid - get this - $45 for! Considering people get less than 3000 miles on these tires, I'll be holding onto that spare . I'll post some pictures as soon as I get the bike together. Woohoo!

I got the wheels back from the shop and mounted them back on the bike last night after getting home from school. I'll see about taking some daylight pictures since the flash ones don't come out too well.

How wide can you go on the rear tire with the stock rim? pro's or con's on wider?

You can safely mount a 170/60 17 on the 5" stock rim.
I currently have one on my bike but will prolly go with a 160 next time.
Pro: looks good. seems slightly more stable in fast sweepers.
Con: Gives the bike a very heavy feel mid corner when compared to the 160. mid corner corrections seem to take more effort.
above observations made with 2 different brands of tire. (metzeler 120 60 front 160 & 170 rear-2sets) (shinko 005 advance-suprisingly good tire-120 70 front 160 &170 rear)

I got a smokin' deal on a 170/60 BT014 that I'm keeping until my 160 wears out Are you running a 120/60 or 70 in front?

I have run both but prefer the 120/70 with the forks up in the clamps an extra 10-12mm. Seems to give a slightly more predictable turn in with no loss of feel or stability.
the '70' also seems to handle mid corner bumps a bit smoother than the '60'.
Make sure to check for clearance if you run the forkshigh in the clamps. too much and the fender kisses the lower clamp......

So far I've been happy with my BT014's.
No "issues" yet.
